Medispa: A new approach to beauty treatment

A new concept has been growing in the world of beauty treatments, the Medisa (sometimes called a ‘Medi Spa’, ‘Med Spa’ or ‘Medical Spa’).

The idea is to combine medical beauty treatments with the traditional ‘spa’ approach. But what exactly is a Medispa?

“It’s a place where you can come and relax while having non-surgical treatments. The most common are age-reduction, but there are many other treatments, such as hair removal, acne and laser liposuction” says Juliet Laws, one of the founders of Medispa S10, a new MediSpa in Sheffield, UK.

“There is an increasing demand for beauty treatments as the science is progressing so fast”

MediSpas treat a wide range of complaints as well, from thread veins and skin pigmentation to acne and cellulite.

Some also offer treatments like massages, nutritional advice and acupuncture. Having all these services in one place offers convenience and allows a holistic approach. Common services include:

  • Skin tightening
  • Acne Treatment
  • Botox
  • Cellulite treatments
  • Computerised skin consultation
  • Dermal Fillers
  • Hand Rejuvenation
  • Hydrotherapy Treatments
  • Line and wrinkle injections
  • Massages
  • Mesotherapy
  • Non-surgical facelift
  • Nutritional advice
  • Peels
  • Non-surgical face lifts ( for example the Vampire face lift)
  • Hair removal
  • Stem cell treatments
  • Thread vein removal

While most customers are female, a significant portion of customers are male. Just as men are increasingly turning to cosmetic surgery, they are also choosing non-surgical procedures to improve their looks and wellbeing. There are even young people in student accommodation in Sheffield using the Medispa.

Medispas can be exclusive. Services are not cheap and clients are usually fairly affluent. This is especially the case for laser treatments like skin tightening and hair removal, as the machines are so expensive. You get what you pay for though, so be aware if a Medispa is using the cheaper lasers. You can expect worse results.

Cosmetic surgeons are often owners or operate alongside Medispas as well. But the core services are non-surgical.

We’d recommend Medispas as great places to get beauty treatments. Make sure they are using the best products, especially lasers, as you get what you pay for. Also check out the Spa to make sure it has the relaxing atmosphere you’d expect. Remember the word ‘Medispa’. They are here to stay.
